The acclaimed sculptor George Norris recently died at 84 in his birthplace, Victoria, B.C. His work can be seen in several B.C. communities. He is best known for creating the iconic stainless steel fountain outside the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver, but his work can be readily viewed at the University of Victoria. Norris created the geometrically patterned pre-cast concrete panels on the exterior of the McPherson Library. His other hometown prominent work is the abstract Dynamic Mobile Steel Sculpture found in the covered courtyard of the central branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library. Recent articles on his life and art are available in the Times Colonist (March 15, 2013) and the Globe and Mail (March 27, 2013).
