Pre-Digital Books Seminar – February 8, 2013
01/31/13 11:00 , Categories: Uncategorized
The Research Collective “Pre-digital Books” invites researchers, instructors, students, and members of the community at large to explore and share the holdings of UVic Libraries' Special Collections. Organized as a seminar, the research group meets in the McPherson Library for short show-and-tell presentations of items held in Special Collections followed by open discussion. All are welcome.
The next meeting is Friday 8 February at 1:30 p.m., in A003, the room adjacent to the Special Collections Reading Room, in the lower level of the McPherson Library. The featured speakers are:
* Peter Cook (Department of History) on Joseph-François Lafitau's Moeurs des Sauvages Amériquains Comparées aux Moeurs des Premier Temps, 2 vols. (Paris, 1724). This is a work of comparative ethnography by a French Jesuit who spent time in Canada.
* Lisa Surridge and Mary Elizabeth Leighton (Department of English) on Victorian illustrated periodicals. Victorian periodicals are a major strength of UVic Libraries’ special collections.
The presentation program and other information are posted on http://web.uvic.ca/~predigit/. Anyone interested in becoming a member of this group -- whether to present, attend all sessions, or attend when the topic is of particular interest -- should send an e-mail message to Helene Cazes (hcazes@uvic.ca) or/and Erin Kelly (ekelly@uvic.ca).
